Just before the judging began to see which sculpture was the best there was a local metal detector man with his metal detector. We set him a challenge and he had to try and find Mr I's keys in a square in the sand and guess what he found them!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!.But now it was time for the big reveal of who won the sculpture It was (Drum Beat) a first = finish as Samantha Hardie, Madison Hawke and Bronte Hall tied with Stacey Rodrigue, Ruby - Lou Stewert, Emma Waine and Lara Goulding.

Grandparent Writing

Here are some of the best grandparent peices of writing. Hope you enjoy.

My Pop normally drives a tractor all day because he works on a farm but doesn’t live there. He is 60 years old and also I was supposed to be born on his birthday but I came into this world a day early. Mum says I was his early birthday present and Pop normally says I was the best present he ever received.

On his days off he normally goes to the TAB to bet on a horse and when his race is on he swears at the TV to try and motivate it.

He has glasses that are so dark you can’t even see his eyes. Pop also has pale brown skin because he has a bit of Maori in him. He has wrinkles all over him like little brown mountains.

The unique thing about Pop is that his second cousin is Todd Blackadder, the Crusaders’ coach. But no matter what I do he will always support me.

My Grandmother, who I call Gran, has thick, bright white hair that makes her very easy to find no matter how many people are around her. (This would have been helpful one time when I was four and her hair was still a brownish-red colour. I was four years old and we had just done a bike ride for something, and we were standing in a large crowd, when her name got drawn out of a large glass bowl and somebody announced she had just won a bike! She pushed through the crowd, completely forgetting me in her excitement – she can get very excited! I tried to follow her but I was so small I couldn’t get through!)

She is rather tall, and usually wears tights and long tops, sometimes with a scarf.

When she is at home, she often wears reading glasses, which have a rope on them so if she is not using them they hang around her neck.

Gran is very kind, and is an extremely positive person, always describing everything with the words lovely, beautiful or nice.

My Grandad is always having knee operations! He’s good now but he went a bit hyper after the operation. When my Dad went down he got told to throw the possum out the window but he was on the 7th Storey at the hospital.

He lives in Greymouth with my Dad’s Aunty. They walk around with a walking stick. My Dad’s aunty lives on the Greymouth hill, you can look out the window and see the Greymouth bar (That’s wicked) and next door is a playground.

My Grandad has grey hair like a steel pole.

My Grandad is a big guy. He is kind hearted and he gives you lollies as soon as you walk in the door. Grandad is all ways dressed nicely.

By Jack

My Grandma is 62 years old. She has lots of wrinkles. She is a really cool grandparent.

Eight weeks ago she had a bit of a memory loss. Grandma forgot that she can't afford to go to the USA.

She wears glasses and works on a computer at home. Grandma saw the TV ads and wanted a lot of the stuff even though she couldn't afford half of it.

My Grandma is the best to me. She lets me have an ice cream and play on the computer. My Grandma is lovely and kind hearted. She gives me lollies and juice.

She is as funny as a comedian.

Quentin

Well I hope you love Room 2's best grandparent descriptions.

Eels

Room 2 went to camp to Golden Bay. We went to Bencarri  Farm  and we  fed the eels with meat on a stick.
The eels came right out of the water for the meat. They were big  and slimey.

Room 2's Natureland trip

Damian the biggest monkey in the Jungle

John with the dead rat
On the 1st of June 2011 Room 2 went on a trip to Natureland Zoo. Our tour guide was Christine and she started off by telling us alot of information about the tuatara because that was our topic. Then she said we can't see the tuatara because it is hibernating. Just after that we found a dead rat near the playground and John the zoo keeper kicked the rat near Emma's Mum and suddenly everyone started laughing. Then Christine brought out Ricky a Tuatara in glass form and she gave everyone a chance to pat 'glass form' Ricky and when I touched him he felt very scaly and  rough. Then it was time for morning tea and a chance to visit some of the animal enclosures. After Morning Tea we sat back down and listened to some more information like a Tuatara can drop off its tail and then she brought out some confiscated animals like a Crocodiles head, a turtles shell, some tuatara skin, a Scorpion in a frame and a sawfish's tooth (a prehistoric swimming reptile). Next we had a car group challenge with even a fear test when you had to put your hand in a bucket and guess what it was. It ended up to be a plastic giant weta. Next we had lunch and a chance to see the Capuchin monkeys being fed. They were so funny. Now it was time to go to the beach. Fnd out what happened in the next part of our beach adventure in part 2.

Wolf Writing

Here are some master peices of writing from Room 2.

I opened the tent to see a blood sucking pebble-eyed wolf. From the moment I saw him I knew I could be served on a silver platter.

His eyes looked like the moon shining down on the ground and its ears were pointed up just like shards of glass. The saliva coming out of his mouth was a waterfall. The colour of his fur was a sort of creamy white like a milk chocolate bar.

His teeth were sharp knives about to go into my flesh. To him I am the chew toy and he’s the dog. One bite from this dog could do a lot of damage. His tongue was rough and shiny just like a frog. He had as many rows of teeth as a whale and sharp teeth as sharp as a sharks.

By Damian Aitken

I open the tent flap and stumble out.

There I came face to face with a meat eating beast.

His teeth are sharp knives with bits of dead animal flesh in them.

Saliva dripped out of his watering mouth like rain falling from the sky making huge puddles right in front of my feet.

His fur is sticking up like big bits of wire getting ready to pounce.

He glares into my eyes like saying he’s starving to death.

He creeps closer and closer still.

His nose is a black night sky, smelling fear.

His ears turn back as he struggles to hear movement. His tongue is a scaly crocodile. I rush back indoors and hope it was a dream.

By Madison H

I Zipped the door of the tent and I saw a Wolf.

His beady looking eyes looked at me as if to say, “You’ll taste good on a platter.”

The wolf’s wet strong sniffer of a nose smelt me out.

The fresh saliva dripped onto his creamy soft coat of fur.

The saliva was wet and cold like ice.

His gums were red from his tasty meal. I just sat and stared. His sharp knife-like teeth chomped up and down like scissors at the hair dressers.

His long wiggly tongue licked around his hard lips and his sharp pointy ears pricked up to see if I was still there.

By Lily

I pushed my way through the trees, into the clearing and saw it. A wolf stood with fluffy brown back fur, and an evil expression on its face.

Its eyes were set back in its head, yellow like crumpled sunflowers, furious, glowing sunflowers.

Sharp teeth like daggers reflect the fear on my face.

Its ears are back against its head as if it’s straining to hear something.

Streams of saliva flowed out of his open mouth and were blown along the length of its body by the wind, finally falling to the damp ground by his bushy tail. Grey and white fur engulfs its body, and is constantly moving like a tent in the middle of a storm.

A small, black nose is constantly twitching as it sniffs out its prey - ME.

The wolf’s tongue is a snake, wriggling around in its mouth, its home.

Slowly I back into the bush and begin the long hike home. I was too scared to stay here!!!!!

A display of Didymo on rocks. (Not real)

On the 16th of February Room 2 went to the Nelson Provincial Museum and learnt about 'Water.'  Some of the things we learnt about were, how water gets dirty, mussel farms,  what creatures need to survive in water and we even worked out the code to find out how six dogs in Auckland died. They died because they ate a very toxic sea slug. We also learnt that the Cawthron Institute does lots of scientific research for the whole of New Zealand.
